Are financial aid programs available for Georgia residents?
Yes, the state of Georgia provides several programs to help Georgia residents pay for educational expenses. The following is a description of these programs.
Hope Scholarship
The Hope Scholarship is available to eligible residents pursuing an undergraduate degree who have graduated from high school as a HOPE scholar or who have obtained a cumulative 3.0 HOPE gpa at the most recent checkpoint (30, 60, or 90 attempted hours).
HOPE Grant
The Hope Grant is a separate program from the HOPE Scholarship. It is available to eligible residents who are pursuing a certificate regardless of high school graduation date or grade point average.
Accel Grant
The Accel Grant is available to Georgia high school students who are enrolled in college degree-level coursework as they simultaneously meet their high school graduation requirements.
The HOPE Scholarship, Grant, and ACCEL provide full tuition, assistance for mandatory fees, and a book allowance.
ACCEL students should complete an ACCEL Application online through GaCollege411.org.
HOPE Scholarship and Grant students may either complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA, online at www.fafsa.ed.gov) or complete a Georgia Scholarship/Grant application (GSFAPPS) through GaCollege411.org.
The Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grant provides grant assistance to residents of Georgia who demonstrate substantial financial need.
There are Grants available to assist children of Georgia law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMT’s and prison guards who were permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty by providing grant funds toward the cost of attendance. There are also several Grant programs for members and children of the Armed Forces and public service officers.
